We head a bit further north to the Norse Lands to visit a Tomte setting off in his gift-laden sleigh, pulled by a reindeer. Looks like he forgot one! Tomten are old characters from Norse folklore; they are small helpers who live near farms and homes... a bit of a house gnome and a bit of Santa Claus combined. This nighttime scene (but let's face it, this time of year this close to the Arctic Circle it's pretty much dark all day and night) is brightened with silvery glitter. One of several Advent Calendars from our Nordic Tomten Collection by artist Eva Melhuish. Made in Germany by the Korsch Verlag Company; they began making Advent Calendars in Munich in 1951.
